SIW, or System Information for Windows, is a Windows utility published by Topala Software Solutions. It is designed to answer practical questions about a Windows computer by combining hardware information, software information, network information, diagnostics, and reporting in one application.
SIW is developed by Gabriel Topala and the Topala Software Solutions team. The product focus is technical visibility: identifying the computer, understanding its components and configuration, investigating software and network state, and producing information that can be saved for support or documentation.
Topala Software Solutions identifies 2005 as its founding year. The public SIW release archive begins with SIW 2007 v1.67, released on March 10, 2007. That release already included capabilities such as Logical Disks, Remote Licenses, Installed Programs, XML and HTML reports, and command-line report options.
The product has expanded incrementally rather than changing its purpose. Hardware identification, software inventory, network information, licenses, reports, and compatibility support have remained connected themes as Windows and computer hardware evolved.
The complete chronology is available in the SIW release notes archive. Release notes are the authoritative place to check what changed in a particular version.
CPU, memory, motherboard, BIOS, devices, PCI, storage, SMART or NVMe data, sensors, ports, and system resources.
Operating system, updates, installed programs, licenses, processes, drivers, services, scheduled tasks, security, and configuration.
Adapters, IP configuration, connections, statistics, firewall, shares, Active Directory context, and open ports.
These areas can be reviewed interactively or collected into reports. The Technician's Version is designed for portable professional workflows, while the Home Edition is intended for personal use.
